Environment and Man Interaction

In this topic we will discuss about the various aspects of the human and environment interaction.

The relationship of man and environment is, bi-directional. That is, human beings are affected by the environment and they also effect the environment. The environments in which we live and work affect our thoughts feelings and behaviors. Everything that affects us during our lifetime is collectively known as environment. As human beings we are often concerned with surrounding conditions that effect people and other organizations. Today all over the world there is growing concern about the deteriorating quality of environment and efforts are being made to stop the widespread abuse of environment and improve its quality.

The first worldwide meeting of heads of states in response to the concerns for the environment took place at the earth summit, formally known as the United Nation Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in Rio de Janeiro in 1992. This conference reflects world -wide concern about the quality of our environment. International Environment Education Program is the out coming of the 1992 conference and efforts are being made globally to educate people at all levels society about the environmental concerns.

Human Environmental Interaction can be defining as a interaction between the human social system and the” rest” of the ecosystem.

Social systems and ecosystems are complex adaptive systems. Complex because ecosystems and human social systems have many parts related to each other between these parts.  Adaptive because they have feedback structure that promote survival in a constantly changing environment.

In order to analyses human environmental interaction it is important to be aware of specific characteristics of human social system. The type of society strongly influences people’s attitude towards nature, their behavior and therefore their impact on ecosystems. Important characteristics of human social systems are population size, social organization, values, technology, wealth, education, knowledge, and many more. Especially values and knowledge strongly influence peoples “view of life” and consequently define the way people act. The choice possible actions is then limited by the available technology.

People modify the environment for their purposes and obtain benefits from it. These ecosystem services are essential for human well being.  For example the provision resources like water, timber, food, energy information and many more. Obviously by using these resource people effect the environment in a lot of ways. Furthermore people often reorganize existing ecosystems to achieve new ones that seem to be more effective in serving their needs. Changes in the relationship or balance of any of these several factors determine the behaviour  of the plant or the animal, although this became acutely evident only in the long run.

Now the environment that influence or determine plants and animals also mould human nature. But for the purpose for this workshop, as indeed in any context, the generally of men or rather less concerned with this environments and more with the vital human forces or factors fatefully shaping man. It is social behavior that conditions human development in any crucial sense of that term. In this topic i am presenting you just a few facts about environment and man interaction because it’s not to end just a few discussions.
